It is an unfamiliar darkness—one you step into unknowingly, but must emerge from with awareness. This book is about tunnels. But not the ones running through city streets or cutting through mountains—rather, tunnels within the mind, the psyche, within us.
Tunnels that pretend to lead us forward, yet in truth, keep us stuck. That make us appear successful but leave us empty inside. That present us as good, respectable, even beloved—but not for ourselves, only for others. This book is a journey through those very tunnels. Not to blame others. Not to blame ourselves. But for one purpose only: to understand.
If something in these pages brings you to tears, makes you reflect, or even wounds you, perhaps that is exactly where you need to pause. To stay a little longer. To ask a little deeper. No one comes out of this tunnel unscarred, but whoever passes through it is never the same again. And that, is the beginning of freedom.
From the Darkness, to Myself
I am Mehdi Souroriyan.
But what gives meaning to me is not merely a name spoken on tongues,
nor even a shining legacy in an industry that dazzles the eye.
What defines me is the path I have taken—
winding roads without a map, without light, without promises.
It was me and the darkness;
sometimes with a trembling heart,
sometimes with breath held tight,
but always, always moving forward.
My childhood was not a story—it was survival training.
While other children played in the alleys,
I was pulled out of the endless embrace of childhood—
not gently, but with a jolt,
like being thrown from a warm dream into relentless cold.
