The Divan of Hafez is a book comprising all the remaining poems of Hafez. Most of these poems are in Persian, though there are compositions that include both Persian and Arabic, and one complete ghazal in Arabic is also evident. The most significant part of this collection is the ghazals. There are also poems in other forms such as qasidas, ruba'is, and masnavis in this Divan. There is no evidence suggesting the destruction of a major portion of Hafez's poetry, and besides, Hafez enjoyed considerable fame during his lifetime. Therefore, the relatively small number of poems in the Divan indicates that he was not an exceptionally prolific poet. The total number of ghazals generally accepted is 495. The Divan of Hafez was likely compiled for the first time after his death, possibly by Mohammad Golandam. However, some unconfirmed reports suggest that Hafez edited his own Divan in 770 AH, more than twenty years before his death. This edition has been compiled by the efforts of Kizhakemuri Publications in Vancouver, Canada, and prepared for Persian-speaking readers.
